How to get a free Gemini API key for LingoMic
From opening Google AI Studio to pasting your key into LingoMic, plus how to check your free allowance and fix the most common errors.
Why LingoMic uses your own Gemini key
LingoMic runs on Google’s Gemini AI to listen, translate and summarize your meetings. Instead of charging you a monthly AI fee, we let you use your own key. Google hands these out for free, with a daily usage allowance.
That means you pay LingoMic once for your plan, and your meeting audio travels straight from your browser to Google, with no middleman server in between.
Five steps to your key
- Open Google AI Studio and sign in with your Google account.
- Click Get API key in the left sidebar.
- Click Create API key and pick an existing project, or let Google create one.
- Copy the key that appears. It begins with
AIza. - Keep it somewhere safe, and never share it.
Google sets the free allowance and may change it. You can see your current limits on the Usage page in AI Studio.
Add your key to LingoMic
Open LingoMic from the Chrome toolbar, go to Settings, paste your key into the Gemini API key field and hit Test. Once you see the green check, you’re ready for your next meeting.
Common errors
“API key not valid”: part of the key was cut off when copying. Copy the full key again.
“Quota exceeded”: you’ve used today’s allowance. Wait for it to reset, or check the Usage page.
